The New Atheist Nation podcast has been in the works for over a year. We are thrilled that we are nearing the completion of our first three episodes.
We are excited to have interviews with Seth Andrews (The Thinking Atheist podcast), Beth Presswood (Godless Bitches podcast), David Smalley (Dogma Debate podcast), JT Eberhard (http://www.patheos.com/blogs/wwjtd/), Phil Ferguson (Skeptic Money podcast), Dan Beecher (Thank God I'm Atheist podcast) plus several others. Greta Christina is scheduled for an interview tonight. David Silverman is scheduled next week. Some of the interviews offer a behind the scenes look at your favorite podcasts. Others offer fresh perspectives on important issues facing the atheist movement. I interviewed one of the protesters at the American Atheist National Convention (above).
The path to creating a new podcast is paved with unforeseen obstacles. We did most of the legwork for the New Atheist Nation podcast in Boulder, Colorado. That's where we developed the web site, purchased the studio equipment and gathered co-hosts and contributors. But a great job popped up in Silicon Valley, California, splitting up the team and moving the production to a new atheist community. The local atheist club first seemed eager to work with us, when they thought we would produce a new podcast for them. Three weeks later, they tell us today their "specific policies and procedures" preclude them from letting me make a two minute announcement during their meeting tonight. Each obstacle eventually works itself out, and the production continues.
We were invigorated by the positive response to our ideas at the American Atheist National Convention in Salt Lake City last week. It was a ton of work to get our table set up, with three live mics for recording interviews. A surprising number of atheists were supportive of our ideas. Lots of people went home with New Atheist Nation t-shirts proclaiming "Just Another Happy Atheist!" We are eager to share these ideas with the atheist podcasting community in the near future.
